SOFTWARE FOR EVERY NETWORK ENGINEER

Networking has been in the industry for quite some time now. Nowadays companies are investing money automating their network. Today companies like Cisco, Juniper, and Arista are moving towards Automation and the demand for the Automation engineers have increased. Network and System engineers need to upgrade themselves to the latest technology in the market.

With that said I would like to share some of the software or I would say necessary tools for a network or system engineer. 

Softwares -:

GNS3

It is the most important software for every network engineer out there and without a doubt, I would say that if you want to make a career in the networking. then this is the key for you. GNS3 has a marketplace from where you can download images of different vendors. You can actually connect your physical network to GNS3. Furthermore, you can import docker images into GNS3. Not only this you can add many appliances such as Network Automation which has Python pre-installed on it.you can download GNS3 from here

VMware

VMware, Inc. is a  subsidiary of Dell Technologies that provides cloud computing and platform virtualization software and services. It was the first commercially successful company to virtualize the x86 architecture.

Vmware is incorporated with a lot of different features that can be utilized in the networking. for ex. if we want to use GNS3 and do not want our computer RAM to be utilized then we can use VMware 

VMware ESXi (formerly ESX) is an enterprise-class, type-1 hypervisor developed by VMware for deploying and serving virtual computers. As a type-1 hypervisor, ESXi is not a software application that one installs in an operating system (OS); instead, it includes and integrates vital OS components, such as a kernel.

ESXi is more important for people who are sysadmins and be careful it is an operating system, not some software you can download.

VMware has the capability to run multiple operating systems at the same time so if you want to use Linux or mininet .

Wireshark

Wireshark is the world's foremost and widely-used network protocol analyzer. It lets you see what's happening on your network at a microscopic level.

Wireshark captures packets in real time and displays them in human-readable format. Wireshark includes filters, color coding, and other features that let you dig deep into network traffic and inspect individual packets.

You can download Wireshark from its official website for free 

And simply integrate Wireshark with GNS3 also.

There are many features of Wireshark that are worth mentioning 

• Color coding
• Filtering packets
• inspecting packets 
• each bit filtering

Packet Tracer

Any person who wants to do big in networking should know how to work with packet tracer. it is one of the oldest and most used software in the world. Any person who is undergoing CCNA training will have to learn this software. Beginner's stepping stone in the networking industry.

Packet tracer has all the features inbuilt. you don't have to get IOS images and can also use packet analyzer by Cisco.

PuTTy/SecureCRT
